Chef brings Mediterranean flavors to South - Aug 6, 2008

As chef of the new miro district food & drink, the restaurant at the base of The Adelicia condominiums in Midtown, Dean Robb comes to Nashville from Birmingham where he worked with Southern food guru Frank Stitt at Bottega Restaurant & Cafe. A venture of the team behind Watermark, miro district food & drink opened Aug. 1, taking "Miro District" from the late 18th century territorial name for the Nashville region.

On the menu, chef Robb brings together the flavors of the Mediterranean Coast with the tastes of Tennessee.

Several friends of mine just left for a cruise in the Greek Isles, while others have been to the beach or the West Coast. But instead of getting lost in ancient European streets, tanning on the sand, or exploring the pubs and coffee houses of Portland, I am spending my summer in lovely Nashville, Tenn. I wish that it were by choice, but being a lady of limited time and means, there aren’t many other options.

However, while studying miro district’s wine list, I thought, “If I can’t physically go anywhere cool this summer, at least my tongue, and thus my mind, can!”

One of the most promising new restaurants of the year, Miro District Food & Drink, is set to open today in the Adelicia condo building in Midtown.

Specializing in rustic Italian and Mediterranean cuisine, Miro District is the second project from entrepreneur Jerry Brown's Hospitality and Development Group. The first was Watermark,the successful Southern-influenced fine dining spot on 12th Avenue South in the Gulch. Miro District is at the corner of 20th Avenue South and Adelicia Street.
